HIPAA companion (EDI) guides

The WEA Trust and health care providers who submit electronic claims are covered entities under HIPAA's Administrative Simplification Act (HIPAA). Covered entities are required to comply with HIPAA's electronic document interchange (EDI) standards for health care. The Department of Health and Human Services also encourages covered entities to share companion guides to facilitate the efficient implementation of HIPAA's EDI standards.

Companion Guides
These documents supplement the HIPAA Implementation Guides and provide specific business requirements that the WEA Trust will require in order to conduct compliant transactions.

	WEA Trust HIPAA Contingency Plan
	Entities covered by the HIPAA regulations (providers, payers, and clearinghouses) may conduct non-compliant transactions with each other after October 16, 2003, but only if the parties can demonstrate they are making good-faith efforts to be compliant and are jointly developing contingency plans if they cannot be compliant This document provides information on what these entities need to do if not meeting the deadline.
