When benefits start

You are eligible for long term disability benefits during the first 24 months of a continuous period of disability if:
- You are unable to perform adequately the material and substantial duties of your regular occupation due to a physical or mental impairment, which is supported by contemporaneous objective medical evidence;
- You have satisfied a waiting period know as the Elimination Period;
- You have lost a portion of your insured salary because of your disability, which you would have earned had you not been disabled; and
- You have met all policy requirements.
Before the end of this 24-month period, you must also apply for, and pursue in good faith, any other benefits to which you may be entitled such as Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and Wisconsin Retirement System disability benefits.
To continue to receive benefits after the first 24 months of disability, you must be unable to engage in any substantial gainful activity, be receiving SSDI benefits, and continue to meet all policy requirements.
