Understanding your POS service area

View a map of the counties in the Point of Service (POS) geographical area. If you would like to access an online directory of Level 1 providers for any of the POS service areas, please visit our Find a Doctor feature.

Why the POS area is important?
Your level of reimbursement is affected by whether you or your dependents live in the POS area in these instances:

Emergencies – If you live within the POS area, covered services you receive in a medical emergency are reimbursed at Level 1 no matter where you receive them. Deductible, coinsurance, copayment, and reasonable & customary fee limits may apply.

If you reside outside of the POS area, reimbursement will depend on the provider you use.

Health care for dependent children living away from home – Your dependent child should choose a Primary Care Provider in the POS area where he or she resides. However, if your dependent child lives outside of the state of Wisconsin, his or her covered medical services will be reimbursed at Level 1, subject only to applicable deductible, coinsurance, copayments, R&C fee limits, and preauthorization requirements. Note: Reimbursement for chiropractic services and mental health services depends on your provider's network participation.
