The features of the WEA-MedPlus plan

WEA-MedPlus is a health insurance plan designed for public school retirees and their spouses who are age 65 or older, have Medicare as their primary insurance, and want the quality group coverage that the Trust provides.
The premium rates for WEA-MedPlus are based, in part, on medical costs where you live and receive your medical care. If you move from one area to another, your rates may either increase or decrease. Premium rates are adjusted every January 1 and are guaranteed for that calendar year.
Here are some of the features of WEA-MedPlus:
- After Medicare pays as the primary insurer and an annual $100 plan deductible is met, all covered medical expenses are paid at 100% of our reasonable and customary (R&C) fee limits.
- After Medicare pays as primary insurer, covered mental health expenses are paid at 90% of our R&C fee limits and are not subject to a deductible.
- The plan has a $1 million per person lifetime maximum benefit. The maximum benefit renews on January 1 of each year that ends in "0" or "5" if the maximum is not used up on that date.
Please note that WEA-MedPlus does not extend coverage to dependent children nor does it cover prescription drugs and medications except for those that we are required to cover by law. If you need prescription drug coverage, we recommend that you enroll in Medicare Part D.
Also, please keep in mind that once you leave your group plan (to enroll in WEA-MedPlus or any other plan), you will not be able to rejoin your group plan. That’s why it's critical to compare plans and weigh your options carefully.
