Who is eligible to enroll in WEA-MedPlus?

To be eligible for WEA-MedPlus, you must be:
- 65 years of age or older.
- Retired from full-time employment.
- Enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B with Medicare as your primary insurer.
In addition, you (as a subscriber) must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You must be covered as a WEA Trust health plan subscriber at the time you apply for WEA-MedPlus coverage, or
- You had coverage as a WEA Trust health plan subscriber at some point during the ten years immediately prior to your application for coverage, or
- You must be a WEAC-Retired member at the time you apply for WEA-MedPlus coverage, or
- You were a WEAC member at some point within the ten years immediately prior to your application for coverage.
Coverage for your spouse
Your spouse is eligible for WEA-MedPlus if you are enrolled in WEA-MedPlus and he or she is:
- 65 years of age or older.
- Retired from full-time employment.
- Enrolled in Medicare parts A and B with Medicare as the primary insurer.
When you can apply for coverage
A subscriber and spouse, if applicable, can apply for WEA-MedPlus coverage during the following time frames:
- The six-month period following the applicant's Medicare Part B effective date, or
- After the six-month period following the applicant's Medicare Part B effective date, you or your spouse still may apply after having six months of continuous health coverage that is equal to or better than a Basic Medicare Supplement plan, as determined by us. There cannot be a lapse between this coverage and the WEA-MedPlus effective data.
