Home Health Plan When to Call Us
Family changes

To make sure you don’t have any problems with your insurance, remember to call the Trust if you have any change in your family situation, such as:
  • You become the parent of a child through birth, adoption, or legal guardianship.
  • Your child gets married, graduates, or quits school.
  • You get married or divorced.
Each of the above may affect the eligibility of one of your dependents. A timely call can avoid future problems.

For example, if you wait more than 30 days to enroll a new dependent, your new spouse or child may miss their opportunity to get immediate coverage. That’s because when people first become eligible for health insurance, they have 30 days to enroll. If they fail to enroll within this 30-day period, they can apply later, but they will then have to satisfy a 12-month waiting period before coverage begins.

Don’t forget about continuation rights
In addition, your spouse or children have rights to continuation coverage if they become ineligible under your policy. For example, if you get divorced, your former spouse can purchase continuation coverage.

However, these rights exist for only a limited time. If you or your dependent do not notify the Trust within 60 days of the change in status, the continuation right is lost.

If you have any questions, please call the Trust at (800) 279-4000.
