WEA Trust Grant Supports Village of Campbellsport

Village Wins $3,000 Award for Outdoor Ice-Skating Rink

Madison– As part of the 5th Annual Local Spark Award, WEA Trust awarded the Village of Campbellsport a $3,000 grant for an outdoor ice-skating rink to provide the community with a safe and entertaining recreational winter activity for all ages.

The village applied for the Local Spark Award to create the ice-skating rink and host planned social events with no entrance fees. The project’s mission is to enhance health, connections and encourage unity by providing the community this outdoor space.

“Equally important, this is a lost winter tradition brought back to Campbellsport that families will remember for years to come,” wrote David Krebs, Village of Campbellsport President, in his Local Spark submission.

“The Local Spark Award is a unique type of grant program,” said Kyle Humphrey, the Trust’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The proposals that are selected truly create a spark within these communities. It’s inspiring to see the passion and dedication that comes from every Local Spark participant each year.”

In partnership with League of Wisconsin Municipalities, WEA Trust created the Local Spark Award to recognize and reward innovation in Wisconsin’s cities and villages. This summer, WEA Trust received dozens of project proposals from around Wisconsin, which were reviewed by a panel of three judges:

Jerry Deschane – Executive Director of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities

Dan Hill – Local Government Specialist at the UW-Extension

Fran Duncanson – City Clerk-Treasurer, Office Manager, WMCA District II Co-Director, City of Amery, Polk County

The Village of Campbellsport was one of three Local Spark Award winners chosen by the selection committee. Other winners include the City of New Richmond for a historic walking tour and the City of Whitehall for their Whitehall welcome sign.
