The health plan is the only Trust plan affected by the federal Medicare program.
When employees and spouses become eligible for Medicare benefits (normally the first day of the month in which they turn age 65), their premium rate will be determined by factors such as whether or not the employee is still an active employee, their age, and whether dependent children are covered.
We will send a letter approximately three months prior to the employee’s and/or spouse’s 65th birthday to remind them that at age 65 they will become eligible for Medicare health insurance and prescription drug benefits. We will also enclose information that explains coverage options.
